Harfert Grabs Two Podiums In Season Final

November 14, 2010 – Firebird International Raceway East –  With cooler temperatures and clear skies producing flawless racing conditions, fans were in store for a an exciting display of racing action as the CCS Southwest 2010 season came to a close.  Saturday’s testing proved invaluable as the finely tuned #96 G2 Moto Yamaha R6 nailed down the second fastest lap times of the day and secured pole positions in both the Pirelli Diablo Challenge and Unlimited GP on Sunday.

Sunday races.  The passion and motivation for a win was clearly evident as the green flag waved for G2Moto's first race of the day, The Pirelli Diablo Challenge.  Engines spooling and exhausts blasting, the pack launched from the starting grid.  Faltering on the start, Harfert was pushed off into the dirt approaching turn 1, but quickly re-entering in fourth position with third not far ahead.  Unshaken by the event, Harfert aggressively plunged into turn 2

but was unable to hold the line and again slid off the track, all while maintaining fourth position.  However, on the next lap the top 2 positions departed the track at turn 1 and re-entered in the same positions, giving what race officials deemed as "a considerable advantage over the rest of the group". This resulted in CCS race officials penalizing first and second positions three places, enabling Harfert to finish the rest of the race in the number 2 spot on the #96 G2Moto Yamaha.

In the second race of the day for the G2Moto team, Unlimited Supebike, Harfert saw himself inside of row 3, matched up against other 600cc riders as well as 1000s.  The first four laps proved to be a fervent battle as Harfert pushed for the lead, challenging one of the most seasoned veterans in the 1000cc class ,Tom Sovoca.  Blazing into turn 1and unaware of a massive collision of that had ensued behind them, Harfert executed a highly technical and highly dangerous maneuver, backing the machine in and overtaking Sovoca on the larger 1000cc machine.  Harfert continued his pursuit for the remainder of the race and finished strong with a hard fought 3 place.

The final race of the season for the G2Moto team was the highly anticipated Unlimited GP.  For the second time of the day Harfert had the pole and by far his best start of the day.  It was a drag race down the front straight heading into turn 1. Unfortunately with his position being outside and slightly behind, it allowed Nathan Mitchell ,#13, to move ahead into first place.  As the massive pack dove into the turn 3 wide, third place had nowhere to go but into the rear wheel of the #96 G2Moto Yamaha sending Harfert skidding on the low side into the dirt from turn 1 and into the race line in turn 2 causing an immediate red flag condition and resulting in an automatic re-start.  Regrettably that meant the end of the race and the season for Harfert and the G2Moto team.

G2 Moto’s season was a great success this year.  Starting out poorly with battered equipment to ending the last four race weekends on the podium was a challenge for Harfert and the team.  Since transitioning from the G2 Moto Honda CBR600RR to the G2 Moto Yamaha R6, Will has had 15 starts with 8 podium finishes.  Quite an accomplishment with such a monumental change in equipment.

The entire G2 Moto team would like to thank all of our fans and sponsors for their continued support that has made this season possible.  We simply cannot do this without your help and support.  Thank you.
